It's time for a different kind of house. A house that is more than square footage: a house that is Not So Big, where each room is used every day. The Not So Big House isn't just a small house. Rather, it's a smaller house, filled with special details and designed to accommodate the lifestyles of its occupants. The Home Professionals Directory is comprised of those who embrace the Not So Big philosophy.

About Our Company:
Haley Whiteside Design is a studio for architecture, planning, and design based in California's beautiful Lake County (just north of Napa Valley). Our commitment is to offer our clients a unique opportunity to discover what kind of house works best for them and best for the place they want to live. We work to create beautiful, responsive and sensitively-sited architecture that reflects and responds to its local and regional context while also expressing the unique character, needs and dreams of its owners and their surroundings.
We strive to capture a sense of place through the careful and considerate use of orientation, material selection and environmentally sensitive building methods.
In a world so threatened with the ongoing senseless waste of precious land and resources, our design studio is a small oasis where you will discover new options empowered by a thoughtful, caring design process.
Kate Haley received her bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Oregon in 1984. For over 20 years she has been involved in design, site planning and master planning of single and multi-family residential projects as well as lighting design at both the commercial and residential levels.
Mo Whiteside has a wide range of experience as a designer and builder with a special emphasis in quality detailing and fine woodworking. Together they have worked on projects ranging from housing and temple structures in the South Pacific, to their own home in Lake County they built as a testimony to the ideals embodied in Sarah Susanka’s Not So Big House book series.
We look forward to hearing from folks with similar ideals.
